Last week (2-9 March, 2015) we were visited by Mrs
Bente Toepoel, a Dutch Language teacher in Marne
College (Bolsward, Friesland,
The Netherlands). She came to our school to give a course on basic Dutch to the
1º Bachillerato students who are going to travel to The Netherlands in May.
This activity is included in the Comenius Project “North and South: Building
bridges with languages” that we are developing with the Dutch school. Students
had two periods of Dutch everyday.
During the week, we organized different activities.
On Tuesday 3rd of March, the 2º ESO Bilingual
Students, accompanied by their Music teacher, played the Frisian anthem in the
assembly hall to welcome the Dutch teacher. Later, they went on a tour in
Luanco to show her around our village.
3º ESO Bilingual students were working on famous Dutch
painters both in Arts and in English. They did a painting of Van Goh´s famous
picture “Bedroom in Arlés” and prepared power point presentations on three
famous Dutch painters: Rembrandt, Veermer and Van Gogh.
Some 1º of Bachillerato students worked in Science and
English on two Dutch scientists: Eise Eisinga (Dronrijp 1749- Franeker 1828)
and Antonie Van Leeuwenhoek (Delft
1632- 1723). On Wednesday afternoon 4th of March, students presented their
works to families and students from the Bilingual Section and 1º Bachillerato
and the Dutch teacher gave a talk about The Netherlands and the Dutch school
system.
On Thursday 4th of March, there was a sport activity
organized by the Physical Education teachers. 1º of Bachillerato students
played a competition of a Dutch game called Korfball.
On Friday, after the Dutch lessons had finished, 1º
Bachillerato students met in the school library for a competition on The
Netherlands. Divided in groups, they had to answer questions about different
aspects of the Dutch culture and language. Although it was a close competition,
the tie was broken at the end and there was a winner team.
All along the week, we learnt new things about The
Netherlands. We enjoyed the visit of Mrs Bente Toepoel a lot.
