GROUP : CULTURE
We had
several lessons about the Spain project. Our topic is food and culture. We
divided the topic into sub-questions. These were: Food, sports, music and
traditions.
19 December –
Today we received the explanation about the research. Mister Faber told us what
to do and we were very excited about the topic we received. We thought it was
the most interesting topic of all.
14 January –
In the holidays we started to look up
the information for the research. We found several things, for example:
Raphael Nadal is from Spain,
Asturias. There is a sport that is quite familiar to the sport one wall
handball. The Spanish name is Basque
Pelota.
A lot of the food is sea-food. Which
is less eaten in the Netherlands.
We noticed that there’s a lot of Celtic music in Spain. This is also not very
usual in the Netherlands. We think tomato fighting is the most funny tradition
of Spain.
Today we
heard that we had to give presentations to our parents coming Thursday.
15 January – Today we finished the total
presentation for our parents. One of us finished the PowerPoint presentation.
But we were a bit nervous for the next day.
16 January – One of our team members was ill but
luckily she did show up. At the beginning of the evening mister Faber told some
interesting things about the trip to Asturias. There was a girl that went to
Spain last year and she told how the experience was. After this it was our time
to go. We ended the row of presentations with our presentation. Next to the
nerves we did enjoy it.
Right now
we’re still working on expanding our information and go into detail. After the
spring break we have to be finished with our paper.

GROUP : ECONOMY
GROUP : ECONOMY
Project Diary
- November 26th : We started our research about Spain. The goal of the research was to learn more about Spain. The class was divided into five groups. Each group had to research a different topic. The five topics were: Economics, Geography, History, Culture and Government. Our group was going to research the economy.
- December 10th: We divided our topic into a couple of sub-questions and gathered information to answer these sub-questions.
- January 7th: Our group processed our information into a PowerPoint. Our PowerPoint was then put together with the PowerPoint’s from the other groups to form one big PowerPoint.
- January 16th: We presented our presentation to our parents, during an information-evening. The parents were very enthusiastic.
When we posted the PowerPoint’s on the blog, we discovered that our
prejudices about the Spaniards weren’t all true. And the same counted for the
prejudices about us from the Spaniards.
We now know a lot more about Spain and we are very excited to visit
Spain in May. Before we started the research about Spain, we had to make
contact with the people in Spain. First we talked to them by mail and later by
What’s App. We are really looking forward to go to Spain because we already
know the children where we are going to a little bit.
We also like the idea of the Spanish week. Than we can actually talk to
them in their own language. I think that the conversations with them in Spanish
aren’t going to be very long or something, but it is nice to learn a new
language which you also can use if you are on a holiday in Spain for example.

GROUP : GEOGRAPHY
Project Diary
- 10 December: We made a whatsapp group, divided the parts of our subject and made a planning.
- 17 December: We worked on our project, made some changes and divide the parts different.
- 24 December till 10 January: Finish all our parts and search some pictures for the PowerPoint.
- 11 January: We went to Picabo, finished our PowerPoint, put all the parts together and practiced the presentation.
- 16 January: We had the presentation in the Marne College for our parents.
Things we
noticed were:
- In Asturias there isn’t always beautiful weather, sometimes it’s cold and rainy just like the Netherlands.
- In Asturias snow isn’t very rare, we thought it would be.
- In Asturias there are very much mountains, we thought it just would be mostly beach.
- The highest mountain in Asturias is also higher than the highest mountain in the Netherlands.
- Asturias is important for mining and not only for tourism, as we thought.

GROUP : GOVERNMENT
Project Diary
The last weeks we search for
information about the government of Spain and the differences compared to the
Netherlands.
- 6 January: We thought of some sub questions which we could use for our presentation. We also decided who was going to search for information about which part.
- 13 January: Before this day everybody of our group had looked for information and made a text about it, together we looked if everything was correct and if anything had to be changed.
- 16 January: This evening we had to do a presentation in front of all our parents. Further on our parents could ask questions about the exchange and a girl who already visited Spain in a personal exchange a few years age told us about her experiences and places she had visited in Spain. We all thought that it was very interesting and we really liked the fact that she had a great time in Spain, because that will probably mean that we will have a great time too.
We learnt that there are many
differences between Friesland and Asturias. One thing which we noticed which is
connected to our subject is that Asturias has its own parliament and is allowed
to make its own decision about many things, for example about education. In
Friesland we cannot make that many decisions of our own.

GROUP : HISTORY
Project Diary History group:
Our topic is History, we have
to look up things from the History of Spain, Asturias and Luanco. Of course,
this is a very large topic, but we try to pick the most important things.
- On the 16th of November, we started to look up information about the History and we made the PowerPoint, which we had to present to our parents. It was mostly about the colonies of Spain and the most important wars which happened.
- On the 14thof January it was the day: our parents came to see us how we did. Bente and Markus weren’t there, but Wytze and Zefrin did a really good job! Our parents enjoyed it, and it was a really good evening. J
From now
on, we have to expand the report with more important information about the
history of Spain.
We are really
looking forward to our trip to Spain and to get to know more about your
beautiful country!
